Defence Accounts Department (DAD) is one of the pioneers in computerisation of government work to provide citizen - friendly service by tapping information and communication technology (ICT). Various projects being introduced in this field are aimed at increasing efficiency and accuracy resulting in customer satisfaction.

Recently, three ICT projects - Aashraya, Suvigya and Sankalan - have been launched in DAD by Shri. A.K. Antony, Hon'ble Defence Minister on 1st October, 2010, on the occasion of the 263rd Foundation Day of DAD. These projects are aimed at making full use of ICT in accounting, pension and audit matters. Speaking on the occasion, the Hon'ble Defence Minister expressed hope that these projects would "ensure quick and accurate disbursement of pension."

Project Suvigya is an online pension enquiry system that would enable the Ex-servicemen to know their entitlements at the click of a button. With Project Aashraya, a pension disbursing software, it would be possible for a pensioner to log in and access his pension account from anywhere. It would also assist the Pension Disbursing Agencies in redressing complaints and ensure prompt and accurate disbursement of pension.

Sankalan is a part of DAD's green initiative. It would facilitate dissemination of various orders, instructions and manuals electronically, thereby reducing paper consumption in the department.
